Fry's U14B vs. Almondsbury Sun 4th Feb.2007
With the next two fixtures for the Fry Club
Girls being must win games to secure at least a midtable position, this game
against Almondsbury was crucial! The pitch was in excellent condition and the
weather perfect, so with hopes high after some cold Sundays spent working
on their open game play the Fry's Girls kicked off the first half.
Fry's started brightly in the first few
minutes and just started to settle down when out of a silly goal mouth
scramble Almondsbury took the lead! The Fry Club Girls just went flat and were
rocked even further when some 4 or 5 minutes later Almondsbury scored again to
make the score 2-0 in their favour! Was there any way back? Well thankfully
Danni thought so and gave what can only be described as an inspiring first
half all out performance, and slowly the rest of the team started to follow
suit.
There were a couple of half chances just
before the break but nothing to suggest a come back from Fry's as the whistle
blew for half time.
Jackie made a crucial change at half time by
bring Chelsea on for Steph and swapping Amy to a more central role.
The second half again started slowly for the Fry
Club Girls and Alomndsbury seemed to just have the edge. Then one of
Charlottes throws found Chelsea on the left for the first time and off she
went reeking havoc within the Almondsbury midfield and defence. This then set
the shape of things for the next 5 mins
and Chelsea grabbed the game by its bootstraps for Fry's and started to feed
Amy with half chances, Danni now running on empty after the first half efforts
made sure she was in space and ready to lay a ball to Amy or Chelsea when
needed or was available to grab any scraps from failed Fry's efforts. This was
the turning point of the game as Almondsbury failed to pick Danni up. Thanks
to a perfect ball from Amy, Danni side footed home from point blank range!
With the score now at 2-1 to Almondsbury the Fry's Girls had a life line.
Danni hit the bar a minute later and so nearly levelled the score again thanks
to a great ball from Amy. Chelsea tore the Almondsbury midfield apart at
every opportunity and Amy scored with a lovely low hard midrange shot to make
the game all square at 2-2! With only some 10 mins left to play Danni was
subbed for Emily Dean for some fresh pace and hopefully the killer blow. The
game became an end to end affair for the next couple of minutes. And then Amy
took a knock and couldn't continue!.
Steph came back on for Amy's role and Emily Tite
was swapped for Sophie. With the enforced changes you would think the Fry Club Girls
would have played out the game for the draw. Not so, step up Emily Dean with
another net buster!
3-2 to Fry's! and that was to be the final
result as the whistle blew a minute or two later.
To have come back from two goals down when it
looked all was lost showed true strength well done Girls!
The player of the match this week was super sub Chelsea, who just gave it everything she had! Very well done!
Mentioned in dispatches this week are Danni who
like Chelsea wouldn't give in, and Amy for some great runs and crucial
passing well done both of you!
